WORKSHOP TO HELP CHILDREN LEARN IMPORTANCE OF MONEY
Kuching, Feb 3, 2009 – A workshop to help children learn the importance of money organized by ArtSchool in collaboration with My Money Tree Sdn Bhd will be held on Feb 28 here.
The two-hour introductory workshop called MoneyTree – Developing Tomorrow’s Financial Genius is aimed at addressing the lack of practical business and financial knowledge and skills which have created several problems in the world – the most obvious being Debt Driven Poverty.
Credit card debts amongst the younger generation is at an all time high as young entrepreneurs are closing down their businesses as fast as they are being set up while rising costs of education made it difficult for lower income groups to raise their status in life, thus creating a situation of hopelessness amongst the needy.
My Money Tree Sdn Bhd firmly feels that education is the only path with long terms results and the problem needs to be addressed early while the individual is still at an age where good habits can be taught easily.
The workshops are divided into two levels: Junior level for ages 9 – 13 and the apprentice level for ages 14 – 18.
The contents for the Junior level include the principles of personal financial management, the principles behind wealth creation, an introduction to some of the more common investment instruments, and understanding the banking system.
For Apprentice level, the contents include the supply – demand impact on price, the impact and implications of inflation, an in-depth look at other investment instruments, and understanding the conditions and requirements of entrepreneurship.
MoneyTree is created for children to learn the skills of a practical investor and most importantly, to learn how money is related to their life and people around them. They will also learn positive values of networking, cooperation, competitiveness, value of reading and current affairs.
The content is build upon three principles, namely RIM for Relevance, Interactivity and Measurability.
For relevance, actual practices in the commercial world, current market conditions and the business and investment landscape are taken into account, and students are taken on an educational journey that gives them an insight to the spoken and sometimes unspoken rules that govern the world of commerce and industry.
For interactivity, students learn best when they are engaged through visual and audio forms, participation in experiential learning, and sharing of experiences in highly interactive sessions which draw them into participation.
For measurability, a student’s progress is tracked via assessment measures like work sheets, assignments, simulations, portal games and activities which are in place every step of the way to ensure that inherent weaknesses can be addressed for optimal results.
