Student Testimonials from Dec Holiday Programme

Clarisa Kim Wemple, 12 years old

BEFORE WORKSHOP:
Before I joined money tree, I didn’t really know many ways on how to save and why we should save. I also didn’t realize that starting to save from young would help when you’re older. I didn’t really realize that when spending, you have to think carefully because there was this particular sentence that I have heard somewhere when I was younger, that kept ringing in my head when I bought something. The sentence was, “Money spent can be earned back.” That sentence made me think that money was really easy to earn back, but it’s not as easy as it sounds.
AFTER WORKSHOP:
After the programme, I now understand a bit more about money and how we should spend it wisely and ways to save up our money. Now, I feel that even though the sentence that was always ringing in my head after I bought something was true, I now understand that that sentence is both wrong and right as if you keep spending money, earning it back may be quite difficult if you don’t have a good pay job. I really enjoyed the programme as I have made new friends and at the same time, learned new things! :)

Graeme Ching, 16 years old
BEFORE WORKSHOP:
I used to splurge on many unnecessary items before I attended money tree. No sense of saving ever entered my mind and it didn’t really seem to make much impact on my life whether I saved or not, so naturally I didn’t. It would have gone out of control if I hadn’t attended the money tree lessons.
AFTER WORKSHOP:
The lessons were extremely helpful, they were very interesting and made the complex study of subjects such as economics and stocks very simple to grasp and understand. I benefited greatly and it would surely help me in the future, not only in the poly, but also in my future career. Thanks money tree!

BEFORE WORKSHOP:
Mainly speaking, it was an embarrassing moment that I am being forced to join this program by my aunt, due to the forward payment made by her. And mostly speaking I really have no interest in any of her “Plans” because not long ago, I do not want to do anything related to her. But being forced by my father and my aunt respectively, I have no choice but to come for this particular program. What a wrath…
AFTER WORKSHOP:
At this particular moment where I am finally graduated from, I was somehow feeling great, as I made a lot of friends thru this camp/workshop, I manage to made a good result to prove to my parent and guardians that “I learned something and I matured even more than what you can expect, also I even know how to manage my finance more properly now…” But I can say that those trainers/coaches are very much friendly especially when they interact with everyone in the camp/workshop to make sure that no one was left out in their ‘dream’ world. And practically speaking, this workshop is great in the sense that everyone has the mentality to take down notes on their own free will, (if they want to earn money of course) and it is not just purely boring lessons, but was actually just mainly activities to let us learn thing thru all three ways. (Vision, Audio, Practical)

Chaw Liping, 16 years old

BEFORE WORKSHOP:
I was just a normal student before I attended the Moneytree programme. I didn’t know anything about financial planning. To me, the money given to me, was my allowance and I could spent it anyhow and anywhere. I didn’t realise the importance of money. And when money comes into my hand, they would just disappear on stuffs that I want to buy.
AFTER WORKSHOP:
After attending the Moneytree programme, I found out that it is really a very fun and interesting organisation that teaches students about real-life financial literacy through a special and effective method. For me, I first thought that the moneytree programme, was only there to teach me moneyrelated stuff. But after I attended the programme, I found out that I was actually able to learn more than what I thought I would there. I was quite shock when they said they are going to teach us to play shares and learn about stock market. It was also very motivating when I see many other teenagers in the same class as me. We learn many financial tips together and I manage to make quite a few friends there. We all learn and played games like trivia. Real-life examples about finances were also given and I found out many things that are happening around the world today when finances are not plan properly. I like the programmes.

Lim Qi En, 9 years old

BEFORE WORKSHOP:
I always waste my money buying things that I do not need. My parents always scold me.
AFTER WORKSHOP:
I learned how to save money and I did not waste my money anymore. I learnt how to ask myself this question: “Do I really need to buy this thing???” I also appreciate the teachers for teaching me and I am looking forward to the next workshop.

Shazwi Suwandi, 18 years old

BEFORE WORKSHOP:
Being someone that wanted an avenue to express my business self and a person to turn to for guidance to financial and business maturity, I expected MoneyTree to have good trainers with good ways of teaching me on everything from saving money to raising money for my company.
AFTER WORKSHOP:
MoneyTree has certainly fulfilled my expectations as a financial body that equips me with enough skills. Right now, I’ve acquired public speaking skills, business planning skills, and many more that has made me achieve what I thought was impossible in the past. From then on, I’ve been participating in many business competitions and succeeded thanks to both MoneyTree and my own sweat and tears. I’m glad I started my business journey with them and today, I’m already starting up my business with the help of other mentors who are in the web industry. Cheers.

Kang Yi Xi, 11 years old

BEFORE WORKSHOP:
Before attending MoneyTree, I did not possess much financial knowledge and the idea of going into business had rarely crossed my mind. With the onset of the current recession, I expected the trainers there to equip me with the right financial knowledge and skills to be able to manage my money well.
AFTER WORKSHOP:
MoneyTree has certainly equipped me with lots of useful skills, from planning your goals to managing your wealth. It is the only class that I have taken in so far in my life that I look forward to. I now aspire to set up businesses and am interested in investing. Thanks to all the trainers who made this possible.

“Through this camp I find that I learn a lot. For example now, I’m only in Secondary School, I have learnt things beyond my level…… I will recommend this to my friends. They too should start their financial planning from young. I will say that it is a very good exposure for one and all.”

Samantha Whang (16) - CHIJ : Katong Convent

“I find it very interesting and useful,
I will definitely recommend this to my school and my friends.
On top of that the camp also teaches me a lot of things, for example like bonds and mutual funds.”

Benjamin Chin (14) - Catholic High School

“We learn money saving, budgeting, demand and supply.”

Tay Zhong En (14) -HolyInnocent’s High School

“We learn Assets and liabilities and I find it interest.”

Alfred Lee (11) - Catholic High School

“From this camp, I learn a lot of things, especially those that you will normally not learn at schools and I find it is really useful.Like the Demand and Supply Curve, which I heard they will only learn in JCs. Actually when the trainer do it here, it becomes very simplified and it is very easy to understand. I think that is what that is good about this programme.”

Samuel Hsu (14) - Catholic High School

“Actually, 90% of the world, people after the age of 65 are poor, because they don’t manage their money properly. And if you start saving now, you can be in the 10% and not in the 90%. Start planning at your age now, if you are still young, there is a chance.”

Aloysius (11) - Catholic High School
